Smart Community International (SCI) is a non-political and non-profitable humanitarian relief and development organization that works to realise a life of dignity, hope and potential for communities in disaster-prone areas.

In short, we work to save lives, promote self-reliance and dignity through human transformation that transcends relief and development.

Formerly registered in 2013 as Pastoralist Development and Transparency Agency (PADATA), SCI was registered by a group of visionary professionals working in civil society organizations, who came together with the objective of improving and upgrading communities in the Horn of Africa. SCI is dedicated to fostering positive change in communities, with its primary focus on Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

SCI focuses on the following programmes: WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods; Governance; Social Protection; Education; Health and Nutrition; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management; Peace building and Security and Youth Empowerment.

The formation of SCI was motivated by a recognition of the inadequacy of ground coverage by various humanitarian actors in areas facing humanitarian disasters. The founders of SCI identified a gap in addressing the pressing needs of communities affected by crises in regions such as Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia. The specific motivations for SCI’s establishment include:

1. Localized Approach: SCI acknowledges the importance of a localized approach to humanitarian assistance. By operating in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia, the organization aims to bridge the gap between international organizations and the specific needs of communities in these regions.
2. Understanding Community Dynamics: SCI is driven by a deep understanding of the unique dynamics, cultures, and challenges present in the areas it serves. This localized knowledge allows for more effective and culturally sensitive interventions.
3. Timely and Responsive Action: The founders recognized the need for swift and responsive action during humanitarian disasters. By being on the ground and closely connected to the communities, SCI aims to provide timely assistance and address immediate needs in times of crisis.
4. Holistic Approach: SCI’s formation was motivated by a commitment to addressing a wide range of community needs beyond immediate relief. The organization seeks to implement sustainable programs that encompass various sectors, including water and sanitation, food security, education, and more.
5. Empowerment and Long-Term Impact: SCI is motivated by a desire to empower communities for long-term resilience. The organization believes in not only responding to emergencies but also in equipping communities with the tools and resources needed to build a sustainable future.

Join us on a journey where every brushstroke of assistance paints a brighter future for communities under the caring canvas of Smart Community International (SCI).
